Aramideh to receive UWW Endurance Trophy

TEHRAN, Nov. 16 (MNA) – United World Wrestling (UWW) has announced that Iran’s Abolfazl Aramideh, who is severely ill, will be awarded the Endurance Trophy in coming days.

As announced by the official website of the UWW, the award will coincide with the observance of Universal Children's Day on November 20.

The report recalls that the 15-year-old Iranian freestyler Aramideh, during the Cadet Asian championships in Taiwan in April, overcame Abdymalik Karachov of Kazakhstan to scoop the bronze medal.

The 2016 Asian Cadet bronze medalist, however, fell ill soon afterwards.

On his condition, Iranian Wrestling Federation President Rasoul Khadem said “Aramideh has shown great courage and strength in fighting his disease.”

Previously in a letter to UWW President Nenad Lalović, Iran’s Khadem had urged the international governing body to award its Endurance Trophy to the young Iranian wrestler.

Online support for Aramideh has also been pouring in for weeks, including a message from 2012 Olympic champion Jordan Burroughs of the US delivered to Aramideh on Instagram.

Meanwhile, Iranian Minister of Sports and Youth Massoud Soltanifar will turn over the award to Aramideh’s family on Friday at the official invitation of Iranian Wrestling Federation.
